- Candidates are required to have a minimum of 54 credits across subjects including English at NCEA Level 2, or
- IELTS score of 6.0 across all bands; or equivalent
- TOEFL IBT 46, TOEFL PBT score of 550 or Pearson score of 42.
If you're investigative, intelligent and informed, and you like writing, then this programme is right for you. You'll be equipped with the skills for a multi-media career in journalism or communications.
You'll work on news gathering and writing for print, broadcast and internet; news photography and videography; court, council, and police reporting; media law and ethics; bi-cultural and multi-cultural perspectives, and shorthand. On some projects, such as our online newspaper The Waikato Independent you'll work collaboratively, sharing skills and ideas with students across the spectrum of media arts. You will gain hands on work experience in the media industry, and learn skills such as feature writing, internet literacy and multi-media projects.
What You'll Learn
The National Diploma in Journalism (Multimedia) (Level 5) may lead to employment as a Journalist, Editor, Sub-editor, Television Presenter, Feature Writer, Online News-Writer, Radio Presenter or Media Advisor.
