Summary
Study to become a contemporary jeweller through a stimulating, creative education in jewellery design
Programme Overview
The New Zealand Diploma in Jewellery (Level 5) prepares students to meet the expectations of industry, providing a stimulating, creative education in jewellery design and making. Incorporating both the practical application of theory-based processes, and an environment for creative development and expression, students learn technical skills for a range of applications, along with creative development, project management, and theoretical studies.
Programme Outline
The following 15 credit courses make up the New Zealand Diploma in Jewellery (Level 5):
Origins: students develops an understanding of the cultural, social and historical contexts that inform their chosen visual practice of jewellery and develop academic writing skills and critical thinking
Context in Practice: students develop contextual thinking as part of working practice through a broad range of experiments that use contextual elements as a priority
Drawing I: students develop knowledge in applied drawing for use as an effective research and development tool in support of project work, or as a creative end in itself
Digital Studio: students develop digital design skills and their application in support of project work in visual arts and design using recognised design principles
Photography: students develop skills in lens-based technology and the creation and manipulation of images using a camera to support design development and presentation
Applied Studio A: students extend art, craft and design skills and knowledge through studio practice in jewellery, while working to a plan that includes research and experimentation
Applied Studio B: students extend art, craft and design skills from experimental work carried out in Applied Studio A
Applied Studio C: students consolidate all research and experimentation and produce resolved studio outcomes ready for exhibition
Entry criteria
Level 3 qualification in a related field or equivalent skills and/or knowledge
International students
Proven equivalence of entry requirements plus IELTS 5.5 (no band below 5.0), or equivalent
