Summary
Gain practical and theoretical knowledge on how to perform basic cosmetic services as an introduction to beauty therapy with UCOL’s National Certificate in Beauty Services (Cosmetology).
The National Certificate in Beauty Services (Cosmetology) provides an introduction to the exciting world of beauty therapy.
You will learn practical skills and gain theoretical knowledge in a range of services, including manicures and pedicures, eye treatments, make-up and basic facials.
You'll gain practical experience by performing beauty services for the public under the support of your lecturer at UCOL's beauty clinic.
Career & Study Outcomes
Graduates of the National Certificate in Beauty Services (Cosmetology) will be work-ready and be able to:
Perform a manicure and/or pedicure service
Perform cosmetic services
Advise clients on selection and use of cosmetics and toiletries.

Course Information:
Workplace Safety (7 credits)
Gain the knowledge and skills relating to personal and workplace health and safety.
Customer Services (17 credits)
Learn the knowledge and skills relating to the receptionist role and functions for the beauty industry.
Cosmetic Services (16 credits)
Learn the knowledge and skills relating to the anatomy and physiology of the skin of the face so you can conduct a skin consultation to determine skin type and condition, perform cosmetic services, perform a cosmetic facial service, and perform makeup services.
Manicure and Pedicure Services (12 credits)
Learn the knowledge and skills relating to lower arm, hand, lower leg, and foot anatomy and physiology so you can perform a complete manicure and/or pedicure service.
Entry criteria
NCEA Level 1 OR
Equivalent academic achievement OR
On a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the Executive Dean
International student applicants whose first language is not English must have an IELTS General or Academic score of 5 with no band score lower than 5 (or equivalent including TOEFL).
Under 20 years of age
For international applicants under 20 years of age who do not hold NCEA, International Academic Qualifications Entry Criteria apply.
