This is a new programme for 2018. If you have completed a Diploma in Career Guidance, New Zealand Diploma in Career Development, Diploma in Advanced Career Guidance or equivalent. You can go on to gain this qualification and work across the career development profession.
Entry is also open to degree graduates. However, those applicants who demonstrate equivalent practical, professional or educational experience of an appropriate kind may be granted admission.
Recognition of prior learning
As with all degree qualifications, there are pathways into the degree, that will recognise applicants' Academic Credit.
The development and planning for this new qualification will involve Recognition of Academic Credit arrangements from existing Career Guidance programmes.
It is our aim to make the transition as smooth as possible.
Should you wish to follow this process, you would be required to apply for Recognition of Academic Credit through NMIT.
This Recognition of Academic Credit would involve some Direct Credit from courses you have achieved in the Diploma and some Recognition of Prior Learning, based on your experiences and other qualifications.
Each request for Recognition of Academic Credit will be considered on its own merits and will be based on an approved schedule of requirements.
We anticipate that the maximum of credits that can be approved through the Recognition of Academic credit process, will be 240 credits.
If you are intending to apply for Recognition of Academic Credit into the degree programme, we suggest that you start to compile in readiness, the following information:
Full details of all the qualifications that you hold or are currently studying.
Information regarding the work/work experience in the careers profession that you are employed in or have already undertaken. This will need to be validated by the organisation within which you are working/have worked.
Evidence that you have undertaken a Treaty of Waitangi course or similar workshop.
We anticipate that Recognition of Academic Credit arrangements will be able to be communicated, once NZQA approval and accreditation has been achieved.
Entry is open to degree graduates. However, those applicants who demonstrate equivalent practical, professional or educational experience of an appropriate kind may be granted admission.
English language requirements
All applicants must have a level of English sufficient to be able to study at this level. Those learners whose first language is not English must have: An International English Language Testing System (IELTS) overall academic score of at least 6.5 (with at least 6.0 in each band) issued within the last two years, or equivalent.
Special Entry requirements
In exceptional circumstances if you not meet the academic requirements, you may be granted entry to the programme. You must supply evidence (e.g. professional certifications and relevant work experience documents) to satisfy the Head of Department or delegate of your ability to succeed on the Graduate Certificate in Career Development programme.
It is strongly recommended that you have some experience working in a careers related position.
