Design and develop a new, entrepreneurial business venture.
The Postgraduate Diploma in Business Enterprise (PGDipBE) programme focuses on the design and development of new, entrepreneurial business ventures.
This programme combines theoretical, applied, technology driven and research based approaches to equip you with advanced analytical skills, enabling you to identify opportunities for future employment and self-employment, based on the creation of new, innovative and economically viable business enterprises.
How is the programme structured?
You will be in face-to-face workshops and completing project based work for the first seven months of the programme to undertake seven business papers plus the research methodology paper.
Your timetable will be provided to you during your orientation.
The Postgraduate Diploma in Business Enterprise programme does not follow the standard NMIT Semester times and breaks. Students study one course per month for 7 months. This requires a time commitment of at least 20 hours per week of study time. Students are able to have a maximum 4 weeks of holiday time during their 18 months of study. The main break is over Christmas New/Year period for 2 weeks (21 December - 1 January) and the other two weeks may be taken during the dissertation time.
After the first seven months of taught papers, you will need to complete a research dissertation which takes 1200 hours. A student spending 40 hours a week on their dissertation would take around 30 weeks to complete this part of the programme. Likewise, a student spending 30 hours a week on their dissertation would expect to take 40 weeks to complete this part of the programme.
Career Opportunities and Pathways
Graduates from the programme will be able to work as self-employed practitioners, or pursue national and international professional careers with commercial bodies and agencies, in the following areas within the business environment:

a) graduated with a degree or honours degree in any discipline from a New Zealand tertiary institution accredited to offer qualifications at this level; or
b) Graduated with a degree from an overseas tertiary institution, deemed by the Academic Committee to be of equivalent standing.
