    Summary

    The New Zealand Diploma in Construction (with strands in Construction Management and Quantity Surveying) is the ideal qualification for people who want to work in the Construction Industry as construction managers or quantity surveyors.

    New Zealand Diploma in Construction will provide you with extensive construction training, the knowledge and the skills for a successful career in either construction management or quantity surveying in either the residential or commercial fields.

    On completion of this programme, you will receive qualification to enter employment in construction management as a technician or quantity surveying under the supervision of a more experienced practitioner relevant to your chosen area of expertise.

    Career opportunities

    Graduates of the New Zealand Diploma in Construction with the strand in Construction Management (Level 6) will be able to work as a:

    Construction Management technician.

    With further training and/or experience graduates of this Diploma may be able to work as a:

    • Residential or commercial construction site/project manager
    • Contracting construction manager/site/project manager
    • Property manager
    • Contracts supervisor/manager
    • Local or central government building inspector
    • Construction management tutor.

    Graduates of the New Zealand Diploma in Construction with the strand in Quantity Surveying (Level 6) will be able to work as a:

    Quantity Surveyor.

    With further training and/or experience graduates of this Diploma may be able to work as a:

    • Senior quantity surveyor
    • Registered quantity surveyor
    • Estimator
    • Quantity surveying consultant/contractor

    Graduates of this qualification may wish to undertake further tertiary study at diploma or degree level in the field of Construction Management or Quantity Surveying.

    Entry criteria

    Academic

    1. A minimum of 50 NCEA credits at Level 2 including 12 credits in Numeracy and
    2. a minimum of 12 Literacy credits at NCEA Level 1

    OR

    Have completed the NZ Certificate in Construction Trade Skills (Level 3) with strands in Allied Trades, Carpentry and Joinery

    OR

    New Zealand Certificate in Construction Related Trades (Supervisor) (Level 4)

    OR

    New Zealand Certificate in Construction Related Trades (Main Contract Supervision) (Level 5)

    OR

    Have experience with a background in the construction or allied trades industries.

    English Language Requirements for International Students

    EAL students must meet the minimum academic entry requirements and have achieved an overall band score (Academic) of 6.0 IELTS, (writing and speaking score no less than 6.0 and reading and listening bands no less than 5.5) or equivalent.

    • TOEFL Paper-based test (pBT) - Score of 550 (with an essay score of 5 TWE)
    • TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT) - Score of 60 (with a writing score of 18)
    • Cambridge English Examinations – FCE, or FCE for schools, or CAE, or CPE with a score of 169. No less than 162 in each skill OET at Grade C in all sub-tests
    • NZCEL a) Expiring b) Current - a) Level 4 (Academic) b) Level 4
      (Academic)Pearson Test of English (Academic) - PToE (Academic) score of 50
    • City & Guilds IESOL - B2 Communicator with a score of 66
