    Summary

    Programme highlights

Get qualified to work as an engineering technician – an area in huge demand here and around the world. As an engineering technician you are an essential member of the design team and will be sought after by industry for the high levels of technical knowledge and practical skills that you have.

In this programme you’ll gain a broad understanding of the engineering fundamentals and skills used to carry out, process and report on the results of technical investigations. You’ll also learn to design, produce and service machinery, equipment, tools and mechanical systems within one of the following specialised fields:

Mechanical Services - get the hands on practical skills to monitor and test building management systems and design, build and maintain refrigeration and air conditioning systems.

General Mechanical - develop your skills and apply them to designing, building and maintaining mechanical systems. Mechanical systems include computer aided design, manufacturing plants, industrial equipment and industrial machinery.

This qualification has been developed to meet international benchmarks for engineering technicians. The aim of the New Zealand Diploma in Engineering is to provide skilled and competent engineering technicians specialised in mechanical for the New Zealand engineering sector. Graduates will be capable of operating at a technician level scope of practice as outlined by the Dublin Accord (International Engineering Alliance, 2002).

    Career opportunities

Mechanical engineering and mechanical services cover an extensive range of occupations and industries. Positions can include engineering technicians, design engineers, plant engineers and managers.

The analytical, problem solving and project management skills gained through mechanical engineering training can also be transferred to many other occupations and provide a great platform for careers in business, management and design.
