This specialty is designed for students who want to work as an early childhood teacher in a mainstream early childhood centre. You’ll develop your understanding of early childhood education and the early childhood teaching national curriculum, Te Whariki.
Prepares you for a career as an early childhood teacher, working with children from 0 to 5 years
Develop key skills in teaching the curriculum
22 weeks of teaching placements in a range of early childhood centres
Graduates are eligible to apply for provisional teacher registration
Teaching in a mainstream early childhood centre
With experience, management of an early childhood centre
Applicants must be 18 years old and have obtained a qualification equivalent to New Zealand year 13.
Must meet Education Council of Aotearoa New Zealand requirements
Must meet Vulnerable Children Act requirements
Education Council requirements for conduct
Interview, numeracy and literacy competency assessment, CV and experience working with young children
English Language requirements:
IELTS (Academic) with a band score of 7.0 in each component OR A level 7 degree from a New Zealand or Australian University OR Two years of secondary schooling in New Zealand and UE literacy at level 2 NCEA with 5 credits in reading and 5 credits in writing; TOEFL score Internet-based: Total score of 80; Computer-based: Total score of 213 with a minimum essay rating of 4.0; Pearson Test of English: Total score of 50.
