    The Master of Public Health is a research-focused qualification where you will be able to do your own research under the supervision of experienced public health researchers.

    Follow your research interests

    The programme emphasizes applied research and practical experience. You will be able to conduct research relevant to your public health work, interests and experiences, building on the knowledge learned through your Postgraduate Diploma of Public Health.

    With the Master of Public Health, you will be able to demonstrate a critical awareness of the public health research literature, reason and act independently in your professional life, and undertake collaborative research within interdisciplinary and inter-sectoral environments.

    Careers

    A graduate with the Master of Public Health (MPH) will be able to demonstrate a critical awareness of the public health research literature, reason and act independently as a professional working in public health, and undertake collaborative public health research within interdisciplinary and inter-sectoral environments.

    Graduates make contributions to public health policy development at local and national levels and contribute to public health knowledge through scholarly inquiry and publication. They also demonstrate competence in planning and conducting research in public health.

    Many of our graduates go on to an academic career in teaching and research.

    Structure
    Students complete the compulsory courses and select elective courses from Part One. A minimum grade average of B is required in order to progress to part Two. The number of elective courses required is dependent upon the entry pathway ie entry to the 240, 180 or 120 credit programme and the option selected for Part Two.

    Students who do not achieve the minimum grade average in Part One may be exited with a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health.

    Planning your programme

    You must achieve at least a B grade average in the part one courses to progress to part two.

    Students who complete the 240 credit programme within two years of first enrolling for full-time study or within five years of first enrolling for part-time study may be awarded a class of honours.

    Students who complete the 180 credit programme within 18 months of first enrolling for full-time study or within 4 years of first enrolling for part-time study may be awarded Distinction or Merit.

    Students who complete the 120 programme within one year of first enrolling for full-time study or within three years of first enrolling for part-time study may be awarded Distinction or Merit

    Entry criteria

    To gain entry to the Master of Public Health programme, you must have met one of the following entry pathways:

    • Have completed a Bachelor’s degree in the health sciences; Students will complete the full 240 credits for Parts One and Two as specified in the schedule.
    • Have completed a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline and have relevant professional experience; Students will complete at least 180 credits, including Parts one and Two as specified in the schedule.
    • Have completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health and achieved a minimum ‘B’ grade average.

    English language requirements:

    • IELTS score of 6.5 (no band less than 6.0)
    • TOEFL iBT score of 90 overall (min 20 in Writing)
    • PTE Academic score of 58 Overall (min 50 in communicative skills)
    • Cambridge English score of 180
